Another commissioner for Florida. Tony Bennett, the former Indiana schools’ chief and current Florida education commissioner, resigned today after less than eight months on the job. The resignation comes after emails were released that show that he and other officials from the Indiana Department of Education altered grades for certain schools last fall. (Miami Herald)

A concert in the clouds. Gal Faganel, an assistant professor of cello at the University of Northern Colorado, did a 15-mile hike to Longs Peak in Rocky Mountain National Park. Faganel wasn’t alone; not only did he have a companion, he also carried his cello all the way to the top and performed a concert for fellow hikers. (Huffington Post)

School safety. In the Clarksville School District in Arkansas, not only are teachers well versed in school safety, but they are also protected. More than 20 teachers and staff members will be carrying concealed weapons only after undergoing 53 hours of training. (Today)

Studying all cultures. Mexican-American studies programs are back in Arizona after the federal court ordered it (along with African-American studies) be taught to high school classes. Teachers are now unsure how to teach this program as there is no curriculum in place. With school beginning in just a few weeks, the program may not begin unless the state puts a set of standards in place. (Voxxi)
